Schedule
Throughout different sessions, ELEMENTS will offer courses in the following areas:
Course Descriptions: 1.
Handbuilding & Extruding (Beginner): Basic handbuilding techniques such as coil, slab, pinch and extruding will be covered.
2. Handbuilding/Modeling (Intermediate): Requires at least one class term of experience. Learn to construct larger,
intricate handbuilt pieces. Experience and use multiple, combined techniques.
3. Wheel-Thrown Pottery (Beginner): Requires
no experience in throwing. Learn to center, pull a cylinder and make basic shapes on the potter's wheel.
4. Wheel-Thrown
Pottery (Intermediate): Requires at least one class term of experience in throwing (some handbuilding experience recommended).
Learn to make and attach handles and spouts, and craft lids for your thrown pieces.
5. Wheel-Thrown Pottery (Beginner/Intermediate):
Suitable for beginners and a good development course for those with some throwing experience.
6. Figurative Sculpture:
No experience necessary. Craft a detailed human bust. Learn how to measure and properly construct a sculpture that will fire
properly.
7. Modeling: Some handbuilding experience needed. Learn the ins and outs of modeling various items in an
artistic fashion.
8. Raku: Some handbuilding experience recommended. Construct pieces to be fired in the exciting
and dramatic raku process.
9. Intermediate/Advanced Throwing; Must have wheel experience (beyond centering). Intense-study
class will focus on mastering handles, lids and other attachments, as well as the art of alterd forms.
10. The Zen
of Pottery (Beginner to All Levels): No experience necessary, built for all levels of potters. An intense four-week course
designed to provide an in-depth learning experience and understanding of clay. The course will focus on mastering basic skills;
including wedging, centering and pulling a cylinder. Not a production-based course, participants will focus on simple forms
and essential skills only.
11. The Art of Ongi: Learn a combination coiling/throwing technique to create very large
pots with ease. Students must know how to center.

CLAY STUDIO & GALLERY, INC. Winter 2010: Session 2 Elements Clay Studio is currently offering
4 week class sessions. Registrations for any 4 week course includes: Hands-on instruction; 25 lbs of class clay (with glazing and
firing); Free open studio access during the term of the class and one additional finish-up week; 10% discount on tools and
glazes in KPS; personal storage shelf.

experience. Wheel-based projects emphasize altered shapes, combined

Enjoy full studio access and use of all equipment
without having to schedule a regular class! Open studio hours are available seven days a week. Elements has electric wheels,
wall and hand-extruders, slab roller, Giffin Grip and an extensive mold, stamp and texture mat collection. With two throwing
rooms, we can even offer wheel space when classes are in session! Although open studio memberships are independent study,
expert studio assistance is available. $75.00 / month Don't forget, Elements studio members receive a 10% discount
in Kickwheel Pottery Supply on glazes, tools and books. Members can also enjoy access to 30+ clay bodies and more than 40
food-safe glazes.
